THE CHANGE - IN ISLAND #1

It all starts with the change of Presidency in 2008.  It was proven by the vote that most of the Maldivian citizens needed a change in 2008's election. All voted for a change, all wanted to change Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.  In his 30 years the development was slow and we have to depend on it. To have the freedom in development and give the people the power, everyone really needed a change.

With change of Presidency in 2008, the Decentralization of Island offices and Atoll Offices made major changes in the administrative sides of the offices in Maldives. It might be hard to take in all the adjustments an office had to go with the new rule. Mostly uneducated people were ruling in the top positions. They were working with their eyes on forehead to give power to the people of Maldives, to decentralize and work freely on developing their own place.

The political situation was new in Maldives and it created disagreements and decentralization was not appreciated by the parties which ruled the Parliament of Maldives that time. Meanwhile, the opposition party DRP who lost in election had the Parliament's majority. Those members were busy changing the rules of decentralization of island and Atoll councils like as it was their job to stop it. It was called "The Political Mashunigandu" for a long time because the rules and regulations were changed every day

Then in the middle of July 2009, the ex president and the leader of the opposition party was called by Maldives Police Service for questioning. This article is focused on changes happened in the island during that situation.

It became the breaking news and live telecast was on all Medias that night, meantime creating a protest near the Alivaage (Gayyooms residence).  Members of MDP and DRP were about to clash anytime. Police with shields arrived had to take hold of the situation by throwing tear gas into the protesters around the streets to make way for the car which was ready to take off with Ex president. Risk of taking Gayyoom safely to the Head Quarters was high for Maldives Police Service. With hours of trying and request they took Gayyoom to police Head Quarters and finished questioning not a while after he got in.
